Philippine Wedding Traditions

Days Left: 479 days as of today

Or also known as "pamahiin". We pinoys have lots and lots of pamahiin and getting married is no excuse with this traditions. Here are a few of them:

  • Brides shouldn't try on her wedding dress before the wedding day or the wedding will not push through.
  • Giving arinola (chamberpot) on the couple as wedding gifts is said to be goodluck.
  • Couples who's wedding is near should avoid long drives or traveling because they are accident-prone.
  • If it rains during the ceremony means prosperity and happiness for the couple.
  • The groom must arrive before the bride at the church to avoid bad luck.
No harm will be done if we follow some of this "pamahiin". Besides we're Filipinos we are used to this kind of traditions.

May Nag Text... Yung Totoo

Days Left: 480 days as of today

Of course we need to take a break from the messy and stressful wedding preps. So Charles & I decided to bond last night by watching Vice Ganda's First Major Solo Concert: May Nag-Text! Yung Totoo!... at Araneta Coliseum. We had so much fun last night. The concert was full of surprises. And the sold out concert can really tell that Vice Ganda is having a blast.

(enjoying our night out)

Have a break from the stressful preps and bond with h2b. After all he/she is the reason why you are getting married and doing all the wedding preparations right?! Take time to relax and enjoy life.

Something Old & Something Borrowed

Days Left: 487 days as of today

To go with the old traditions of:
Something New: of course it will be my dress
Something Blue: maybe my shoes or my undies (wink wink)
Something Old & Something Borrowed: Charles'parents arrhae

(dirty arrhae)

I found it at their house when I cooked lunch one saturday afternoon. I went to the bathroom and when I went out i looked at their altar and I saw the arrhae. I asked Charles if we can borrow it. It turns out that his mom saw it before and keeps forgetting to give it to me.

(look how dirty the coins are, the years at the back of the coins goes from 1970-1983)

Now all i have to do is clean it (major cleaning) and ask Goldenhills if we could just get the mock rings instead of the freebie of arrhae.

From Kasal.com

Arrhae Ceremony

Sometime after the exchange of vows, the groom presents the arrhae or arras to his bride after it has been blessed by the priest.

The arras, Spanish for "earnest money", is said to come from a Roman custom of breaking gold or silver into equal halves by both parties as a pledge of marriage.

The thirteen coins, said to represent Christ and his 12 apostles, symbolize the groom's unquestionable trust and confidence. By giving arras to his bride, he places all his material wealth into her care. Acceptance by the bride means taking that trust unconditionally with total dedication.

It is also said that the custom came from Spain. The arras usually come in ornate boxes or gift trays and represents the bride's dowry as well as good wishes for prosperity. Oftentimes, these coins become part of the family heirloom.

Changing Colors

Days left: 492 days as of today

Since we changed our Wedding Date, Charles & I have been changing almost everything with the details. First of we changed our motif. Oh the colors. Every time Charles says he wants this color or that color I have been adding Red to it.

He wants Black and white.
I say Why not Black, white & red.
He says: Black, white & aqua.
I say: Black, white, aqua & red.

But unfortunately I did not win. He is really not a fan of Red. So we ended up with one color that we both like and choosing another color that is truly unexpected. The then Peacock colors became: Chocolate Brown & Aqua.

Let me be inspired with the color palette that we chose.

Moving the Date

Days Left: 499 days as of today

Letter for w@w:

Hi mga sis and bro

Naging Lurker lang ako for the past few weeks and minsan nga talagng hindi pa ako nagbabasa. Well as the title says na move ang wedding date namin ni Charles. Reasons? We realized na kinulang ang budget namin and gusto namin bumili ng house. I know hindi ganun kadali ang pagbili ng bahay pero yun ang gusto namin ni Charles muna. I know you will understand mga sis and bro.

So from Oct. 16 of this year na move and date namin to Sept. 10, 2011, naaliw si Charles sakin sa date kasi lumabas na 9-10-11 siya. Ang tagal pa noh?! Good thing din kasi parang bigla kaming nakahinga. Sa totoo lang mga sis and bro sobrang good decision talaga tong ginawa namin. We enjoy preparing for our big day and we want it to be as nice as we can make it to be.

Sorry napahaba mga sis and bro. Ito pala funny story when we decided to move the date and told our parents biglang dumating ang w@w tag ko. hehehehe... Regarding our parents nga pala. they're okay about it naman. Okay na okay sa kanila kasi syempre parang nagprioritize daw kami hindi namin binigla ang pagpapakasal.
